RE: [IBWiFi] Re: cricket broadband services
the CSR i spoke with also told me that millenicom piggybacks onto the VZW
system. i don't particularly care what the business relationship is...just
that it works. and it does. it's our 'Plan B' when th CG wi-fi is extra $,
poorly engineered or completely swamped.

She said they used Verizon towers; that wherever VZ had coverage
they had coverage. However she wouldn't tell me the relationship
between them and VZ or if they even had any or if they just leased
the VZ towers.

I do know that "other customers" DO NOT GET THE SAME SERVICE AS
as VZ customers. I know because Alltel was using their tower right up
the road from our place and service was lousy. Alltel says VZ
somehow cut back the "roamers", being crowded, in order to give
better service to their own customers. It sure made a difference.
Alltel, which was purchased by AT&T in this area, was excellent from
coast to coast, but after we got home from two months vacation, it
was lousy........when VZ cut us back.
I now have VZ and it is excellent, but much more expensive...$80 for
the 10GB plan, which we need.
However, take my advice and do as you please <smile>.

Jim

you might want to check out Millenicom. we've got their EVDO USB device,
20gb of data each month for $59.99. and you can turn the service off and on
at will.

I don't know about Cricket, but I can tell you one thing: The 2.5GB
may well cost you a fortune if you spend much time on the web.
There are some that are still advertising "unlimited" which means
totally "unlimited".
If I were you, I'd check'em all out, especially since you say you are in
a large metro area.
We are using Verizon at the 10G level and it costs about double what
you are saying, but if you were to use 10G with cricket, it may cost
you a heck of a lot more.
If you travel at all, I wouldn't mess with some little off-the-wall
company.
However, if you stay in your area and don't use the web much, that
little insect you talk about may be just fine <smile>.

Jim
