[IBWiFi] Performance from this setup????

I have the opportunity to make a deal on the following equipment.
Hawking HAC30N 30' RG-213 Coax
Hawking HA014SDP Antenna kit
Dlink DWL-G710
Is anyone on here using any of these components and if so how is the
performance?

Re: [IBWiFi] Re: Alph Purchase

Hi Fre

I went straight to Data Alliance.net and did a rush shipping on it...   $50.00 total..

 I may have purchased the 500 mw unit... Model - - 500.1510.1203.2007

I'm sure it will work better than the Old Linksys USB stick I had 7 years ago -- at least I hope so.   Oh, yes - - cheaper than the Linksy of years ago also.

The majority of the time you are stuck with whatever the provider is using,
unless you have an inside track, or the ability to set up your own bridge
(which if you were there a long time, might work) and control both ends.

[IBWiFi] Re: WIFI System

Guys,

Trust me if you want long range WIFI go back and read my earlier posts on this thread. I have been fooling with WIFI in the motorhome for several years and the two antennas I mention will get you excellent range with the AWUS 036H. The plastic tube Yagi is slightly less effective than the Jefa 19db flat panel but it really catches the wind on a long pole.

Be careful when buying the Alfa AWUS 036H USB adapter. There is a 500mw version and a newer 1000mw version and both have the same model number. data-alliance.net has the 1000mw version. I got mine from them. It is better than the 500mw version I also have.

I am using the Alfa and the Yagi now connected to a open router in a restarant (with permission) that is about 1/3 of a mile away and I have good signal strength and link quality.

The way that you get greater distance is a High Gain Antenna on the base station.
This will get you Both send and receive extra distance.

RE: [IBWiFi] WIFI System

Hi Rich,

I have run the whole gantlet of equipment and am returning to the basics that I started out with some years past... before the Sat dishes, cell phone tethering etc became a big thing.. OH, I tether with Verizon 8 years ago as I write...  (speed ? ? serial port - finally went USB with a Ver. tech's help.)  When you loose the cell phone route and have no land line or WIFI close, you go to the Sat system...   = = All have served me well ! ! ! !

Here is the plan - - I am on the bubble to work in downtown Norfolk, VA, (waiting in Iowa) for the next 4 to 6 months.  I will be giving a friend my Verizon Boadband modem as she is dropping here land line as well as AOL.....   While I work, maybe, she will be in The Rio Grande Valley dancing.  What a deal ! ! ! !

I have in the past also run a Hot Spot off of my Sat network with a 12 db gain antenna... may try and hook that up to the ALFA unit later.

Thanks for the comments,   And yes, I am a full time RVer, until someone convinces / gives me reason to do other wise.

wow. 1/5 of a mile is a long way. you should consider mounting a wifi antenna on top of your RV (assuming that's what you travel in). as with any radio system the higher, the better.

My opinion, also.
I gave my wi-fire away after buying an Alfa.
The Alfa worked much better, and it's omni directional. I did get the long antenna for the Alfa.

Don,

I don't think you can do much better than the setup I recommended in earlier posts unless you have Windows 7. Alpha does not yet have drivers for the AWUS 036H for 7.

Re: [IBWiFi] Re: WiFi antennas

Hi Don,

The important things to look for are units that are waterproof and can be mounted on a mast.

Increasing signal strength comes with height and being outside the envelop of the RV.
