But neither Verizon nor Sprint call their programs "WiFi", Jim. Not sure where you heard that, but it isn't so.

That's right too. Those are satellite services. WiFi refers ONLY to the trademarked and standardized service defined and certified by the Wi Fi Alliance and WiFi stands for 'Wireless Fidelity' to the 802.1 LAN standard. Neither cellular nor satellite conforms to that standard.
Sorry to see you go, but maybe it's for the best. The narrow definition is intended to keep the group discussions on target for those who are interested in the Wifi topic only.
