I called Verizon and the best plan for our trip to Alaska is
to add the 20$ per month plan as we enter Canada. We will
still have our 700 minutes on two phones, but there is no
"free" nights and weekends, and no "free" in calling on
mobile to mobile. Every minute counts!
I checked on availability of Mobile Broadband Connect in
Canada and they charge by the kilobyte! One large Microsoft
update could really fry the bill. I'll turn it off as we
enter Canada, on when we hit Alaska, and then reverse on the
way home.
I will go for WiFi when in Canada, either in campgrounds, or
otherwise. We're in a group though, so I probably won't be
cruising around town looking for hot spots. Maybe I can
befriend a fellow traveler with a Sat dish.
