Jerry,
Your old laptop is probably trying to use 10 digit WEP security, while
the new router is probably set to use WPA, which allows shorter keys.
WEP maybe the only security the laptop supports, but look to see if
you can change the key mode to WPA or WPA II. If not, you will have to
change the router to use WEP and a different key that your laptop can
deal with.
