[IBWiFi] Re: Hawking HWDN2

Ken,

We made the trip last summer. If you check around as you go, you can usually find a CG with Wi-Fi. Get the Church's campground guide if you haven't already; their info is reasonably up to date.

We added an external antenna before the trip and it was a good investment as we used it several times. Expect to see mostly B hotspots, and remember that the CG's network connection might not be the fastest or most stable thing you've ever come across.

WRT the phone, if you're on a Verizon Nationwide plan and not subject to some grandfathering thing that prevents changes, consider changing to their US+Canada plan. We did that when we left the lower-48 and left it that way until we returned in the fall. We dropped the BlackBerry tethered data option so the cost was slightly lower than what we were paying, but we had phone service in most towns all summer with no call roaming charges (although we did have small roaming data charges for BlackBerry email use). It was well worth it to us to have the phone service.
